Working at OTS Group: Spotlight on Josh Merchant

We’d like to introduce you to some of our staff members, starting with Josh. We want you to get to know us, so we'll be profiling more of our team in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Josh is one of the many reasons OTS is such a great place to work. He first came to work for OTS five years ago after completing his A-Levels. Starting out as a workshop assistant, Josh has quickly progressed at OTS and is now our Assistant Project Coordinator and Health & Safety Administrator.

Currently working towards his diploma in Applied Health and Safety, Josh is passionate about his work and takes great pride in ensuring that all our products meet the highest safety and quality standards. We are very lucky to have him on board!

So, let’s get to know him!

Let’s talk about work first. What was your first job?

My first ever job was at a music studio. I was a general assistant, and I did everything from cleaning to drum kit repair to setting up studios for bands. My first job after my A-levels was at OTS in the workshop though, working on the manufacture of OTS’ trademark above ground fuel storage tanks!

What are you currently excited about in your job?

I am excited to finish my NCRQ Level 6 Diploma in Applied Health and Safety. It is something I’ve been working my way towards for a long time and achieving it will be a great feeling!

What’s one of your biggest work pet peeves?

My biggest pet peeve is that my desk is always covered in paperwork! The more I try to get rid of it, the more it seems to accumulate!

So, let’s get on to some more personal topics… What subject could you give an hour-long presentation on with little to no preparation?

Probably the works of JRR Tolkien. I grew up watching the Lord of the Rings movies on repeat and it made me love the universe and mythology that he created.

Do you still live near where you grew up? Why or why not?

Yes, I still live in the same place I grew up. I suppose I never left because I never felt the urge to go away to university after I completed my A-levels. Instead, I started as a Workshop Assistant at OTS and 5 years on I’m still here!

What’s one totally irrational fear that you have?

Trypophobia, which is a fear/disgust towards closely packed holes or bumps – it makes my skin crawl! I think you need to Google it to understand!

Thanks for letting us share some of your story Josh!

Josh has been an integral part of the OTS team for many years, and we are very proud of his achievements. He is a highly valued member of the team, and we know that he will continue to be a huge asset to us in the future.
